Transparency in the Medical Supply Industry

The reason some may be confused by the title is part of the problem. There is very little transparency in the current market. Very few of the items that have been used in procedures on you, by you or at your hospital are actually manufactured by the company with its logos all over the packaging. Many of the big easy to recognize brands if they even manufacture at all only manufacture a very small portion of their product line up.

If they don't make it who does? Great question! Most items are manufactured by small medical OEM's that make products at a relatively low cost. By the time it hits the storeroom shelf at your hospital it has traded hands a few times. It has been shipped and distributed multiple times all the while increasing the price. Some companies are more efficient than others but the bottom line is there is a lot of steps and overhead involved in getting that product to the point of use that unnecessarily inflate the price.

What does lack of transparency and the fact that there is a complicated hidden supply chain have to do with each other much less Dominions Medical? Well, we aim to add that transparency to your supply chain to show you who you are getting the product from. We will highlight those small independent OEM's and show you exactly what you are getting and who you are getting it from when you buy from Dominions. Most often we are showing you the exact same product that is marketed by a much larger brand name that sells them at an incredible mark up with an inefficient process.

If you are being so transparent why should we buy from Dominions rather than buy direct? We exist to help add clarity to your supply chain and reduce your supply spend. We help you get the benefit of essentially buying direct from these OEM's who, while they are great at manufacturing top notch products are not great at getting their product directly to the client. Using our experience and relationships, we help these OEM's get their product into hospitals and into caregiver’s hands more efficiently and at a lower price.

The Bottom Line: Dominions is doing the work to find these OEM's. We help them get their products out there to you, to save you money and increase their direct sales in the process. Our unique network and skill set allows us to efficiently bring these products to the forefront and increase their visibility in the market. This fosters the growth of small medical OEM's as well as the reducing hospital supply spend.

St. Jude vs Medtronic on CRM Patient Deaths

This is an interesting continuing saga from these two companies. Even more reason why transparency in the cardiovascular device space is needed beyond the two industry channel controllers beating each other up. Industry leaders are taking note of these types of articles and recent healthcare trends are coming together to force change and action

"St. Jude Medical Inc. is waging a public relations campaign to protect it's line of implantable heart devices by claiming that more patient deaths are associated with rival products marketed by Medtronic Inc.
On Tuesday, St. Jude lost one round of the battle when the editor of a medical journal said he planned to proceed with print publication of an article released online last month that linked of its products to patients' death. The company, in a press release last month, said it was "seeking a retraction" of the article claiming that it significantly undercounted deaths involving Medtronic devices"

Born Through Social Media

Icon,logo,button,Social Media

Dominions Medical is aiming to do things different from traditional medical companies; from process to purpose and even media. While the medical industry is always on the cutting edge of patient care and surgical techniques the rest of the industry from supply chain to ERP systems and procurement are sometimes left behind. Dominions, in launching a new organization, has made the decision to be on the cutting edge of media and relationships with our customers and peers.

Dominions is committed to making sure that we are fully engaged in social media, and as far as we know, will be the first Medical Company launched through Social Media. What does that mean for an industry that is largely underrepresented in Social Media? It means unprecedented access and insight into the company. We will be updating the Blog, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn frequently with updates on what's going on here at Dominions as well related industry news and information. What it also represents is an ongoing conversation and relationship. Social Media is often represented as Mass Media. While it can be an efficient way to get information out to a lot of people at once it's also a way to engage people individually. From blog comments or Facebook postings each will be read, responded to an considered. If we post about an upcoming change in the company, its offerings or a request for insight from our customers we want 100% straight forward responses. Likewise, you should expect straight forward posts here. If you are looking for over-wordy complicated press releases that are heavy on buzz words and light on information or magazine quality articles you are in the wrong place. While formalities have their place this isn't it. This will be space for Dominions to come put our thoughts and ideas right in front of you. All to make sure we haven't lost touch with your needs as a customer.

While we know we have a great business model focused on saving health care providers money and giving medical OEM's increased value and visibility we want to share it with you and engage you in an ongoing conversation. If you are fully engaged in social media follow along in whatever way suits you best. If not, you can always save the URL to your favorites or subscribe by e-mail using the link at the top of the page. We hope you enjoy our blog and the transparency it will provide and continue to follow along as Dominions grows from an idea to a major player in the healthcare industry.
